Why do People Climb?
- If you could help put an end to lung disease and accomplish a lifelong goal, would you do it?
- If you could help clean the air we breathe and test yourself physically and mentally, would you do it?
- If you could help prevent kids from starting to smoke and be part of a fun, supportive climbing team, would you do it?
Wouldn't You Climb, too?
CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN.
Join the 23rd annual Climb For Clean Air in 2010, a FOUR-DAY fundraising climb of Washington's most prominent landmark, Mount Rainier. Northwest icon and world- famous mountaineer, Lou Whittaker (ALA Volunteer Award Recipient), serves as honorary chairman for this popular event. Elite guides from Rainier Mountaineering, Inc., will guide climbers from Paradise to the summit.
You don't need to be a mountaineer to join us!
The Climb For Clean Air is for active, adventuresome adults with the motivation to make it happen. Most of our climbers have never done anything like this before. We provide the expert guide services of Rainier Mountaineering, Inc., training and fundraising support, and the opportunity for you to fulfill a dream! Accepting the double challenge of raising significant funds and testing your physical limits will set you apart.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
The Climb For Clean Air is a fundraising event, supporting the American Lung Association in Washington. Each climber is required to raise a minimum of $3,500 to qualify for a summit attempt of Mt. Rainier. These funds support vital programs that help promote the importance of lung health in many ways:
- Our Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) program is a peer-based tobacco prevention program aimed at teaching elementary kids about the dangers of tobacco use. Each year, we train teen facilitators in schools across the state to give impactful and entertaining peer-based presentations. Last school year, 1,800 teens provided presentations to more than 53,000 elementary students. Along with other prevention programs supported by the Washington State Department of Health, TATU has contributed to 65,000 fewer youth smokers in Washington since its inception in 2000.
- Our Master Home Environmentalist© program is helping to improve indoor air quality in western Washington homes. Our CLEARCorps volunteers are trained to identify triggers that could be impacting air quality, and offer low-cost or no-cost solutions. Approximately 87% of those receiving this service have made at least one behaviorial change to improve their indoor air quality.
- ALA in Wasington has worked with stakeholders to enact a regional maritime air emissions study. Maritime partners have enacted projects to reduce pollutants.
This year, the Climb For Clean Air will raise more than $200,000 for the work of the American Lung Association® in Alaska, Idaho and Washington. You can make a difference!
